Location & Information

St. Mary's School, Oxted is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Junior School for pupils aged 7 to 11 years.  We have capacity for 360 pupils, having 3 classes of 30 pupils in each of the 4 year groups. Our school is usually oversubscribed (although we do occasionally have a few vacant places, especially in the older year groups, when families have moved away from the area).

St. Mary's School is situated below the North Downs in the middle of one of Oxted's main residential areas. The Church founded the original school in 1872 in Old Oxted. In 1963 the school was transferred to its present site as the local, purpose built Church of England Junior School.  Since then it has been significantly extended and developed to meet the changing needs of our pupils and staff.  The first extension was in 1973 when the school was extended to provide 14 classrooms for class and specialist use.  In June 2005 a new building housing years 3 and 4 was officially opened. Since then many facilities have been updated, to ensure that the School keeps abreast of modern educational developments and is maintained in good order.

The school, standing in 5½ acres of superb grounds,  has excellent facilities including an ICT Suite, library, Music room and various rooms for small group work.  There is an active panel touch screen in every classroom.  There are three playgrounds, extensive playing fields, a pond, an outdoor swimming pool and a staff car park providing sufficient parking for all staff. The Friends of the School Association frequently raises money for new equipment and many parents help in the school.  All areas of the school have access for disabled people, including a toilet and shower facility.

Oxted, with a population of approximately 10,000, lies 20 miles south of London on the A25 and is within 4 miles of Junction 6 on the M25.  It is served by a fast train service to London (28 minutes).  Oxted has good shopping, recreational facilities and residential areas surrounded by beautiful Green Belt countryside.  The school serves Oxted and outlying villages. The children make frequent visits to the Parish  Church, St. Mary's, which is over 900 years old.
